LETS SHAKE IT

In case you guys are wondering what those colorful cans are, they are home made Maraca. Kayla had a project for her Music class to make a musical instrument from things found around the house. She already did the drum last year since it was the easiest to make. But this year we thought about the Maraca.

A Maraca are a native instruments of Puerto Rico, Cuba, Guatemala, Venezuela and several Caribbean Nations and Latin American. It is a percussion instrument consisting of a hollow gourd containing pebbles or beans often played in pairs.

Since we didn't have a gourd we opted to use empty cans that we had in the house. Daddy punched a whole in the can and we washed and dried it really good. After it was all dried we took some corn kernel used for making popcorn and put in the can. Daddy then put a big stick in the can while I glued around it to keep it steady. Kayla decorated it made it look so pretty.

It was after a few days after she made her Maraca that Ralph found out that her the musical instrument we made as a family was on display in her school. I was so proud coz she really did put effort into making it,we just helped her. Of course I just had to take pictures of her achievement. I'm so proud of you manang..
